Writer, producer, and director Stephen Meier recently wrapped production of “Debutantes” in West Kentucky, an experience he says delivered both exceptional footage and the production support needed to bring the project together.
Meier credits Kristi Kilday and the West Kentucky Film Commission team with helping the production navigate the Kentucky Entertainment Incentive Program and connecting filmmakers with local resources throughout the region.
“Not only did she streamline the KEI experience for us, but put us in direct contact with boots-on-the-ground location managers to secure amazing filming locations at competitive rates,” Meier said.
Those connections extended beyond locations. The production also received assistance finding below-the-line crew and equipment rentals, helping make West Kentucky a practical and cost-effective place to film.
But for Meier, the experience was defined by more than production logistics. The welcome his team received from the community — particularly in Paducah — left a lasting impression.
He points to support from local tourism leaders, Paducah Mayor George Bray, Arnold Realty Group, and others throughout the community who stepped forward to help the production.

“Everyone truly made us feel welcome and wanted to help,” Meier said. “We couldn’t have done it without them, and I sincerely mean that. They made a new place feel like home.”
With production complete and footage Meier describes as “gorgeous,” the experience has left him eager to return.
“I will definitely come back to Kentucky to shoot again.”
